Something surprising happend on Tuesday April 21st, 2026. I was led to my employers HR office on the pretense of discussing one of my employees, only to be told that my employment was being terminated. The expression “be careful what you wish for” suddenly took on new significance. Thankfully I did not experience any anger or animocity, and was able to find the humor in the situation. Not many people know, but those who know, understand the irony.
After a few days of licking my emotional wounds and getting orientated to my new reality I headed to Calgary for some much needed grounding, reflection and the comfort of old friends who know me well enough to be supportive and also long enough to be honest. Over the course of a week, I helped reno a bathroom, drank a few beers, took some long walks and managed to secure an international drivers license, update a few vaccinations, and booked a flight to the Phillipines. The adventure starts.
