Well that journey was disorientating.
I left Vancouver at 1430 on May 6th and I arrived at the condo in Manila at 0200 on May 8th! We seemed to fly into what could only be described as eternal dusk, the sky was a beautiful purple hazy color and only seemed to get dark, complete with a full moon, as we neared Japan. I say “seemed” because about an hour outside of Seoul I realized it was still night out my window but daylight through the windows on the opposite side of the plane. My sleep deprived brain was confused for several minutes trying to make sense of it! Finally I realized the windows have an electronic shading feature, controlled by the crew, which left me wondering if it had been daylight the whole trip!
According to Google at about 60 degrees north (Anchorage) you need to travel at approx. 835 km/hr, to keep up with the Earth’s rotation, which coincidently was the cruising speed of the Korean Airlines 787-10.

Immigration and Customs was a breeze, as was the short Grab taxi from the airport to my condo in Makati.
This morning I nervously walked onto the balcony. I’m not very comfortable that high up and it definitely made me ponder the earthquake risk in Manila! 10% in the next 50 years if you’re curious.

This morning’s walk included a great coffee and breakfast at the Tattooed Baker. John the pastry chef is a Brit from the Birmingham area who has lived in the Philippines for 8 years.
After breakfast I stumbled across an oasis in the midst of the concrete. Washington SyCip and Legazpi Parks. Home to lots of feral cats, although the one I took a picture of was wearing a collar!
