Hello Boracay

The must have photos op. There are several “pro’s” that hang here all day taking peoples pictures. Cost about 50php for someone to take your picture. Quite a smart gig with zero overhead and very popular.

May 12th – Had a great sleep & woke at 0530, so figured I’d walk two minutes to the east side of the island for the sunrise. I really enjoy the early morning, experiencing the town waking up and people getting on with their day. People were on the beach raking the seaweed deposited the night before. It looks like each person has about 60-80ft they care for, the beaches are really immaculate.

Man fishing at sunrise, he joked with me that the sea is empty!

I headed south looking for a coffee stop along the beach. Not much was open as it’s entering low season. Bulabog beach is a hotspot for kite surfing and aerofoil, but most shops were closed as the consistant winds the sport relies on have also eased for the season.

The trifecta! Awesome latte, yogurt bowl and view! Calma Cafe is a great spot. Also home to Greenyard Kite Surfing school. Think I might have to try this.

After breakfast I went for a swim before heading back to the hostel to cool off, relaxed and book an island hoping boat tour for the next day. Turned out to be a great time and awesome value, but that’s the next post!

In the afternoon I walked five minutes to the busier, more developed west side of the island’s White Beach where all the tour boats and activities depart from. The whole beach is lined with shops, restaurants, bars and clubs. Found a spot in the shade and did some reading & swimming. Realized I would need to get some face sunscreen before my tour tomorrow. It really is hot in the Philippines, but I am climatizing quickly and would take it over being cold anyday.

Wound the day down with the sunset from White’s Beach. There is such a huge culture of picture taking here. People spend an incredible amount of time posing, taking pictures, then reviewing, editing and deleting most of them. Duing the sunset, the beach is lined with families and groups of ladies taking pictures of themselves, often setting up tripods for their phones or hiring local “pro’s” for photo shoots.

Love all the Paraw in the bay providing sunset cruises.
Figured I’m going to have to get comfortable taking a few selfies. This is me feeling happy.
